Wind Power Generator

Many of the wind turbines situated across the UK are sitting dormant as there is very little wind to power them.
Whereas, tidal power is consistent 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Shouldn’t we be putting all our resources into developing tidal generators and scrap the unreliable wind generators?

I just bought it on eBay a bit ago. It is the size of a blower motor and has a built in magnet. Will I get a sufficient amount of wattage and amps?

I want to use a wind generator type of thing and have the car battery be the storage cell. How would I wire this to power a few lights or appliances?

I would like to get a generator and am also considering investing in some wind-power (urban windmill). I know that the windmill would require an inverter and that most portable generators have inverters in them. Is there any generator that would accept DC input and transform it into AC?

I have a creek that runs in my backyard. At the widest part it might have a width of five feet, at least on the segment on my property. I was thinking that I could use a turbine to generate electricity because it flows year round (I’m in canada), like a wind generator. If this IS a feasible idea then what kind of turbine would work best in water? How many blades, how big, what shape, etc. I’m guessing I’d have to make/order one and clock its average speed in the water to see if it could move fast enough to accomodate any energy production.

I am building a home-made wind turbine generator with lots of tools, money and materials. I need to know how to calculate the number of copper coils, i.e. coil number, windings, size of windings, etc., to generate 1200 Kw of electricity. What size of copper wire? Size of magnets? How many? I am really interested on the mathematics of the wind turbine construction.

I want a book that has some different designs for making electric generators from things like old exercise bikes, fan blades for wind power, low cost solar panels, or any other kind of alternative energy that is easily produced from the home, and with recycled or low cost materials. How to store the energy would also be a plus. All I can seem to find are book specifically for one type of alternative power(i.e. just solar, or just wind). I’m hoping there is something out there that is more like what I have described.
Well I was more hoping just for a book that shows simple electrical hook ups to say turn an old exercise bike into a generator of sorts. Things like that. I assumed old fans, and such wouldn’t produce very much energy, but If I use an exercise bike for an hour every day anyway I thought it would be cool to harness, store, and use some of that power to watch TV while im on the bike, or turn a radio on for a few hours or something along those lines. Just like those new crank radios.

Whenever I pass a wind farm. Why are less than 1/2 of these windmills generators running at any one time. I suppose it is because that they are down for maintenance or repairs. That would seam a logical guess but I have never met anyone who I could ask that might know. With all the recent interest in alternative power (not to mention the "Picken’s Plan") I was thinking that someone would have mentioned it. Do these wind power generators break down frequently and will they need to be less tempermental and more sturdy before thay can be cost effective?

i’m searching for a simple wind generator circuit lay out right now.i’m going to use it to built a simple wind generator that can supply power to charge a mobile phone battery while riding motorcycle.. i really hope somebody can help me.. especially those who are working in electrical and electronics sector.

I am talking about an electric car alternator, an electric alternator needs a current first to generate magnet, then the rotating magnet generates electricity. In the wind power case, at the beginning, there is no electricity to generate magnet, how to make electricity?

Many people use treadmill DC motors as wind generators, I guess that a car starter is DC motor also, so can be used as a wind generator, I could be completely wrong.

I have a 33 feet sailboat. I will like to power it with a wind generator for all our needs, including a little fridge and an ac… its possible? How powerful should it be? Where can I learn more about it?

A couple of persons said Solar power generators are costly because of it equipments. How about the wind power generators ? I residing a km near sea shore an there would be some wind at most times.
I am in South India and I need to know the total cost for setting up a wind generator for my home in order to cut down my electricity bill. A set up that can power at least 4 Fans, 4 tube lights (40W) and a computer.

Aren’t liberals the ones who advocate for no nuclear power, no additional refineries, no additional sourcing of energy in America and especially no wind power generators in their "backyard"?

I’m all for solar derived energy – and for significant conservation measures – but I’m also for fiscally responsible energy measures and not financially strangulating our people and our economy.
